Respecting Our Differences

For example, one of the keys to increasing the number of women entering these historically male-dominated fields are programs that encourage girls’ interest in STEM from a young age. Mary Morgan, senior director of infrastructure engineering at Apollo Education Group, is helping to do just that. Morgan recently volunteered to mentor 10 girls, in grades four through eight at the Arizona Science Center’s Girls in STEM program.
“I know from my own experience how crucial it is to see female role models both in the classroom and actually working in the technology industry,” Morgan says. “As a mentor for these girls, my goal is to inspire them to choose a career in STEM by giving them as much exposure as possible while also breaking down any boundaries they have set for themselves.”
