Here at Apollo Education Group our employees often remark that one of the things they like most about working here is the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. Often that’s by delivering on professional commitments, but it can also be seen through the thousands and thousands of hours our employees spend volunteering in their communities each year. From reading one-on-one with local students, to scoring scholarship applications, to providing career mentorship to youth, we’ve got employees making an impact.
Employees are encouraged to get involved, whether it’s by using their two paid days per year of Community Service Leave, spending an afternoon doing a teambuilding service project or connecting with new coworkers at a project, you will always find Apollo employees rolling up their sleeves at giving back right where they live and work. It’s because our people are so passionate about their communities that we saw 34,000 volunteer hours logged in VolunteerMatch this year. Forty-eight employees even went above and beyond, volunteering hundreds of hours and earning the President’s Volunteer Service Award for their dedication and hard work.
One of the greatest joys each day is hearing from employees with stories to share about their volunteer experiences. Here are just a few things Apollo Education Group volunteers had to say:
“When I speak to friends, family and coworkers I am proud to say that University of Phoenix gives back to our community in various ways. I always get such a great feeling about being able to help those less fortunate than myself. I think it’s awesome to see what we’re able to accomplish with nothing more than some willing people and some of their time!”
“These events have been a great way to build camaraderie and learn more about my mentee while giving back to wonderful educational causes. I’m grateful and honored to work for a company that supports our local communities the way Apollo does. These events provide me with emotional regeneration and I always return to work with my batteries “re-charged” knowing I’ve made a difference in the lives of young people.”
“By volunteering, I am able to make connections with employees across the organization and meet new people that share the same values.”
“I work for Apollo Education Group because I can make a difference not only to our students and my community, but also impact others through our ripple effect of service.”
“I love my job because I get to support our students as they work hard to attain their educational goals. To be able to extend our services to our community in various ways makes this a very special place.”
“Making an impact in the community where my family and friends live and work is one of the most intrinsically rewarding things I get to do, and I’m so proud to work for a company that values giving back as much as I do.”
“Prior to working at University of Phoenix, I can’t say that I ever participated in any volunteer opportunity. In the recent years, I have become active with different volunteer events and the feeling that it gives me is beyond words. Whether it is volunteering with an individual person, a group of people or for a non-profit, the feeling of accomplishment when I am done is indescribable.”
